Q. Why is the Independent member for Lake Macquarie consulting the public on the issue of power privatisation?

The State Government has denied the public access to any consultation process on this issue. There is to be no parliamentary debate and even the Labor Conference is being denied a debate. This change has simply been announced by the Premier (on December 10) and is based on a behind the scenes factional deal in the Labor Party. There was no mention of a sell off in the Party's election campaign less than a year ago. Greg believes that it is important that his constituents and others in the State are able to have their views heard on this critical issue.

Q. Why is this issue so important?

There are huge economic, environmental and social implications for the State and its people. These could include cost increases in electricity, job losses and a further erosion in people's trust of Government given the way the NSW Government is attempting to force this change through with no debate or consultation. These assets have been built by and are owned by the people of NSW - and proposal to privatise should be properly debated.
