Why revise option 3A. The first option 3A protected the open space and put community uses in the buildings but then the report comes up with the revised and recommended option to take away half the space for development.

The summary says an advantage is increasing community space. How can this be? It takes what was community space (a school) and gives half to developers.

Of the recommendations put forward I believe that the successful outcome must not only include keeping the open space, but also keeping the school buildings intact. As it is impossible to get access to any daycare or childcare places within the area, I believe there will be an increase in the demand for school places in the future and the school, or part of it, will be required to be opened again.

The strong demand for a preschool and primary school will not be too far away, either. At the 'consultation' session some demographic data was quoted that said that the 2006 census reported very strong numbers in the 0-4 years age cohort in Cook.

It's also no surprise that the surrounding schools are already full. In the 2020 school closures documentation the Govt acknowledged that Cook was already 91 per cent full,(with better capacity utilisation than many Canberra schools). Now those kids have had to shift to surrounding schools, with consequences for class numbers and class sizes. I understand that within months of Cook Primary closing, the Govt chose to convert toilets into a classroom at one of the surrounding schools to try to create more teaching space.

This means there will be no more room in local schools for the little kids in the next few years. They can't afford to get rid of too many more toilets!
