This community has significant needs in several areas. A publicly owned community centre would serve the needs of the community in a much greater sense.

Perhaps it could have daycare facilities for the aged, in order to provide respite for carers.

Maybe it could provide a local baby healthcare centre.

There could be provision for recreation facilities for young people.

The site could have a community hall for various uses.

Perhaps the site could be partially used for public housing development, to ease the pressure on struggling families in the area.

There are many more possible uses for this site which would serve the needs of the local community in a more holistic sense. To restrict options specifically to aged care and give the community a grand total of 2.9% of the total land for a small BBQ area seems extraordinarily short-sighted and is insulting to the intelligence of this community.

Please take note that the consultation had very limited access to comment. The rules stated that we were only allowed to comment on an aged care facility for this space. That does not mean that the majority of people attending the meeting agreed with the recommendations put forward by ACT planning. This area has traffic problems and anyone who used this site would be well aware of the concessions made between the two schools to accommodate same. To increase the traffic problems by adding an aged care facility which will have great needs just for staff let alone the constant traveling of visiting artisians and relatives would only make the sitution difficult but would increase the likely hood of accidents.

This area would be highly suitable for a brain injury living unit to be supported by a community hall with a number of specialist rooms for both medical(baby health care, pyhsio,GP,massage)and activities eg U3A etc. The addition of an enclosed special heated pool would give great use to the community and the proposed brain injury unit.

Why can't the ACT government think outside the box of needing to have a monetary return for the land that has always been community use.

As the report states the land for the aged care facility will go to private sale, NO ONE in the room agreed to that but still it comes to the final recommendations.

The Village Creek site is far better suited for an aged care facility due to having three streets for access, two of which are quiet streets. The area has a gentle slope and lovely views toward the brindabellas,so that all occupants could take advantage if it were to remain single storey.

I find it interesting that the only recommendation for all disused school sites has an aged care option.
