I am not opposed to private sector involvement per se but dont like the idea of giving away strategic assets. I want to see what the safeguards are that our power will continue to be reliable and that it will not be more expensive and that it will get greener. Once we sell we will create a powerful monopoly which will lobby the government to do what they want. Who will pay for this? Consumers.

Considering the evidence we have as to the evils of privatisation I am wondering how anyone in NSW can swallow any positive spin placed on this ridiculous idea.

Look at Telstra, look at the banks, look at the Victorian Emergency Services. How many failures do we need to endure before we realise that most utilities benefit from Government ownership and control. Particularly when building competing infrastructure is cost prohibitive!!

Dilo before I respond to your comments, do you think that the Perth transporst system is A) Good OR B) bad?

Perth transport (including its trains) is known as one of the best transport systems in Australia, yet it's transport is run by private operators.

Dilo, their is no such thing as "evils privatisation". It's not wether a company/assests, etc is private or public, it IS the quality and how the service is provided.

I agree NFlyer - there have been many successful privatisations but we need to ensure we are getting the right price. Selling in the midst of global financial turmoil, a credit crunch and uncertainty about the impact of carbon taxes is silly just as not asking us first is rude
