4LOL! Costa was a good unionist - the last time the party expelled him was for being a socialist. Could this man be an imposter??!!

2I note with interest the interventionist support of the PM K Rudd on this issue. Q: What is he trying ot do? Methinks he is trying to assuage the fury of the left wing electrical unions with rthe added aim of ensuring NSW stays Labor so his plans will not be disrupted by a disagreeable Coalition govt. in NSW. Costa will leave parliament and it will be before the next election. This issue is his excuse.

4Costa, like many politicians, has come through the party ranks to obtain a position of power where he can insist other politicians in the party vote the way the power brokers determine or else suffer the consequences.
If we continue to elect party stooges as our local members we cannot expect proper representation.
If a local member is a party politicain and attempts to vote according to the best interests of the constituents they are meant to be serving rather than following the party line, they will be the next one to be booted to make way for someone like Greg Combet.

1To be fair to Greg he is not towing the line on this sell off. See today's papers

1I read Greg Combet's comments and was pleased to see him expressing concerns. I can only guess he must be pretty frustrated as it is ostensibly a state issue (disappointing that Mr Rudd has seen fit buy into the issue and try to prop up the Premier). My only concern with Greg C's comments are where he said we should be talking about what the return to the Hunter would be if sold. I believe that is a slippery slope indicating a willingness to "horse trade". If it's wrong, it's wrong regardless of what we could leverage out of a sale.

1Going by the votes on my comment, it seems as though a few want Costa to stay!

3By the way admin, does the tiny URL (or whatever it's called) work for the original post, as the address is too long? Their was only limited options to use a "subject" link.

9Costa shouldn't even be there seeing he has never been elected!
His inclusion in the Ministry, aside from the government, demonstrates that in NSW a parliament of allegedly democratically elected representatives is nothing more than a farce.

4OK so I read in the paper today that Costa says that if the power industry is not protected from the cost of global warming then the consumers will pay.
On the other hand professor Garnot states that the European experience is that power providers given grandfather permits use these to increase profits and still charge consumers more.
Who to trust? A treasurer who is about to leave Government for a private sector role (surely not in the power industry?!) or an independent professor
To me this is another example of the stink of corruption surrounding the NSW Labor right and their mates in industry. It is completely disgraceful to suggest that the very people doing most of the pollution should be exempted from the cost of taxes.

1Queensland privatised and immediately there was an 11% increase in Electricity to consumers. Queensland now has - I think 18 providers - what for? there is absolutely no need.
Privatisation is not necessarily the answer at all, just an excuse for Governments to raise cash and tell themselves that they are "reforming".
Look at the massive problems privatising Telstra has created in the telecommunications world. Are the Public paying less? With our large land mass, yet underpopulated country, Government NEEDS to set up and hold various providers - they can be sold off in many years to come and shall be worth far more.
Incidentally, there is still much debate about Global Warming or the next Ice Age - so Costa is not as informed as he needs to be in his "job".
PLEASE Mr Costa do resign - the standard of political employees read politicians is so poor - worse than I have seen in my lifetime in the last 20 years.
Do read a UK 2007 publication "Scared to Death".
