NSW Premier Morris Iemma has confirmed he will defy his own party and push ahead with his plans to sell off the state's electricity industry.
Mr Iemma today said he had considered the views expressed yesterday at the ALP state conference, but said his ultimate responsibility was to the people of NSW.
After two hours of heated debate, delegates at the conference overwhelmingly voted against the premier's planned sell-off, 702 votes to 107 votes.
"I've considered the views that have been expressed and in weighing up my responsibility ... to the people of NSW, I'm advising that we are proceeding down the path the government has started," Mr Iemma told reporters.

1The last premier that defied his own party (in 1916 I think) got sacked.
I'm not saying what my view is, but if the majority don't want it sold, then it is the same as stealing other people's property, then selling it, so could this act be deemed unlawful?
And remember the sale WILL ONLY help Sydney, and NO other region of NSW. Most of this money (if not more) is suppose to go towards a North-West Metro rail link. No rail line, be it heavy or metro will return to the Castle Hill & other North-West areas, no matter what the transport minister says, as it is a safe Liberal area, and heavy rail (not a metro rail) is best for the North-West suburbs anyway.
This extra billions of dollars is likely just to end up in the leaders pockets, because what happened to all the GST that the states get.
Once again we have some leaders (term used loosely) acting like dictators, and power going to their heads.
PS: Noted in one of the links, that Rudd has announced $100m in disabled funding - strange timing (NOT) isn't it? Now Rudd wouldn't be try & masking this issue with this "good" news about disabled funding, would he??

1I had trouble with editing, and submitting, due to slow connection, so that last bit should read:
"...although Rudd is federal, now Rudd wouldn't be trying to help mask this states issue with this "good" news about disabled funding, would he??
