Selection limits added to EngagementHQ’s check-box style survey questions
While EngagementHQ’s tool suite includes a range of community ideation, feedback and discussion options, surveys are still the default go-to tool for online engagement.
With this in mind, our development team are constantly looking for the best ways to enhance the utility of the EngagementHQ survey and form builder.
There has been consistent demand over the past twelve months for a minor change to the Checkbox style question.
The addition of a simple option to allow you to limit the number of responses to a question opens up a host of new ways that this question type can be used.
At it’s simplest, it allows you to ask your participants to narrow down their preferences or choices to a short list, rather than simply selecting every possible option.
So, for example, if you are asking your participants which of five options they prefer, you might limit the number of responses to two. This allows the participant to select their preferred option, with a second “backup” option, but no more.
A cautionary note: Although this change is available in published surveys, as usual, we recommend to be very cautious when amending surveys that have already been published because any change will affect your data collation.
Your Site, Hub or Project administrator will notice this small, but important, change under the “Settings” section in the foot of the Checkbox question setup screen.
Now, in addition to “Make this question mandatory”, “Display options on the same line”, and “Add note”, you’ll notice “Limit answers to…” followed by a dropdown list.
You simply check the “Limit answers to…” box and select the appropriate number of answers from the dropdown list.
The participant will see a list of options. When they have exceeded the number of permitted options, a note will appear on screen to let them know.
GOOD PRACTICE NOTE: It is a good idea to include the number of permitted options in the question OR in a note beneath the question.
