Jeremy Shackett is an Engagement Specialist on our Bang the Table team in Boulder, CO. Prior to landing at Bang the Table, Jeremy was introduced to the civic tech space by entrepreneurship and tech resources offered through the University of Illinois. While there, he and a partner created Gymnasium, a mobile app developed to connect citizens with the issues and events in their community. In recognition, he placed as Finalist in the American Planning Association Innovating Planning Apps Challenge and was named a semifinalist for the Cozad New Venture Competition.
While Jeremy was presenting his app at the APA National Conference in 2016, he was introduced to Matt Crozier, Co-founder and CEO of Bang the Table, and immediately recognized that the goals of the company aligned with the goals he applied to developing the app.
“Professionally, I was very proud of the work we had done on the app, but when I saw Bang the Table’s Platform, it took the wind out of my sails. Bang the Table’s focus on advancing the practice of community engagement, rather than simply being a tech company, was what attracted me in the first place. I realized that not only did the founders understand best practices in engagement due to their backgrounds, but they also took that knowledge and passion to the next level and developed a superior platform for effectively engaging communities online.”
Jeremy holds a BA in Urban Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Through his development of the mobile community engagement app, he received WInner of the Outstanding Achievement Award and was recognized as the College of Fine and Applied Arts Ambassador. He also studied at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad, Denmark, with a concentration in urban design. Jeremy also interned at the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission in Tampa, Fl.
Fun Facts: In his spare time, Jeremy enjoys rock climbing, reading and traveling. He is also fond of “embarrassing himself” by stepping up to the mic at karaoke from time to time.
