Emergency Management and Disaster Recovery

Adelaide Bushfire recovery

Many Australian Councils have recently been dealing with extreme weather conditions and in some cases, significant disaster and emergency management situations. Communication and engagement strategies are critical during these trying times and often organizations need to respond quickly, provide key information and adapt to their local needs and unique situations.

Join Dan Popping, Practice Lead from Bang the Table as he hosts a discussion on the role of digital engagement when responding to emergency management issues and disaster recovery efforts.

Dan will be joined by three different teams across Australia who will each share their unique story and experience, outlining some of the biggest challenges they faced. Together they will explore the important role of online platforms and how they can be used to deliver an emergency management strategy and support ongoing disaster recovery efforts.

Guest speakers include:

Jennifer Blake and Sarah Hill will outline their roles at Council in response to the recent and devastating Adelaide Hills bushfires in South Australia and discuss Council’s evolving priorities as they begin to transition into recovery mode.

Marion Lawie will share her experiences and lessons learned in her response and recovery role with the Logan City Council disaster management team, when Cyclone Debbie trailed destruction down the Queensland coast in March 2017.

Jessica Rippon, Kate Crowe and Sandy Stugiss from the Shoalhaven City Council will discuss the proactive role the communications team played during the recent large-scale bushfires in NSW and will give some insight into some of their online efforts to support their local community as they begin the recovery phase.
