risk mitigation in public engagement

We all have one – the self-proclaimed watchdog, the neighborhood advocate, the town crier – our proverbial squeaky wheel. We all have a “Greg.”

As city planners, we strive to balance the needs and wants of all our current and future residents within the framework provided by our regulations, processes, and politics. We believe in the value of community engagement and know it is necessary to facilitate community-informed decision-making. But how do we mitigate the risks involved in public involvement, especially with online community engagement?

Join Jessica Metzger, project planner for Santa Barbara, and Michelle Stephens, AICP, Account Executive and Head of Planning Practice, from Bang the Table, to learn more about how your community engagement approach can be used to reach more participants and get better feedback while mitigating participation risks to help you make better decisions.

The content in this webinar will support planners who are responsible to design and manage public participation, as well as others who are interested in learning more about mitigating risks associated with community engagement.

By the end of this webinar, attendees will learn:

  • To identify risks associated with community engagement, specifically online engagement
  • How a community engagement strategy, including format, technique, and tool selection can be used to mitigate the risks associated with public participation
  • The webinar content will include plan examples and case studies. Presenters will be supported with a graphics-heavy presentation, which will be available to attendees after the event, along with the recording. Additional resources regarding community engagement strategy will also be provided
